Collaboration Scholarships

With our goal of supporting skateboarders in their pursuit of higher education, it takes more than just our board members to provide scholarships. Sometimes, it takes a collaboration with outstanding members of our community to make the dream of college a reality for skateboarders across the country. Read below to learn about our collaboration scholarships, the stories behind them and which ones may support your academic journey.

All applicants for any scholarship offered by CSEF must submit their application via our general scholarship application form here.

The Skullcandy Scholarship for Engineers

Skullcandy is a boardsports brand, only they don't make boards; they provide the soundtrack. Skullcandy seeks to encourage more members of the boardsports community in pursuing and achieving the specialized knowledge required to create the devices they offer to enrich people's lives.

The Skullcandy Scholarship for Engineers exists to help the next generation of impressive skateboarders who will fill the crucial technical positions at companies in the action sports industry (and beyond).

The $5,000 scholarship is open to undergrad and graduate students majoring in engineering and related fields.

The Atiba Jefferson Photography & Film Scholarship

Skateboarding has served as an introduction & training space to the fields of photography and videography for generations. This has led many skateboarders to careers in these fields with one of the most successful individuals being Atiba Jefferson.

Atiba has been an icon in skateboarding for 20+ years and beyond, photographing the Lakers to Tyler the Creator. Also, he has expanded into the film space with music videos for American Football, Turnstile, Dinosaur Jr. and more!

Looking to pay it forward to the next generation of photographers and videographers, we work with him to create the Atiba Jefferson Photography & Film Scholarship offering $7,500 towards a skateboarder studying in the fields of photography and film. Additionally, Atiba has included a Canon camera for the winner to assist in their future endeavors.

The Rollin’ From The Heart Zane Timpson Art Scholarship

Zane Timpson was a staple of the Encinitas skateboarding scene and early supporter of Rollin’ From The Heart. Zane would go on to graduate Magna Cum Laude from San Francisco State University with a BA in Cinema and a History minor. During this time, Zane rode for several brands but found his home with Heroin Skateboards. A few years after graduating, Zane would turn pro as well as release several art books, zines and defining video parts.

With Zane sharing a close connection to Ian “Poods” Barry, Rollin’ From The Heart connected partnered with the Timpson family and our organization to honor him with a scholarship. The scholarship is open to anyone pursuing a degree in the fields of art for the amount of $5,000.

The Rollin’ From The Heart Ian “Poods” Barry Scholarship

Ian “Poods” Barry was a bright soul who cared kindly for those around him and was an extremely talented skateboarder. After his passing, the Barry family created the non-profit Rollin’ From The Heart (RFTH) to provide skateboard programming to underserved youth throughout San Diego County as a positive alternative outlet, the same way it was for Ian.

Through their work, RFTH understood the importance of college and the struggles to afford it. They decided it was important to support the next generation of skateboarders from San Diego County and reached out to us.

The Ian “Poods” Barry scholarship is awarded to a San Diego County native in their pursuit of higher education for the amount of $5,000.
